Activity Microsites

Project Overview

Xplorie, like many companies, sought a way to provide travelers with instant access to information about local tours and attractions, enhancing the guest experience. By partnering with local tour operators and lodging providers, Xplorie creates unique solutions that enrich the guest experience.

Criteria:

  • Transition from Paper to Digital: Move from traditional paper brochures to a digital platform.
  • Integration with Guest Apps: Property managers already use a guest app, so the goal is to seamlessly integrate information into the app.
  • Reduce Customer Service Calls: Provide enough details about activities to minimize call times in the customer service center.
  • Display Rules and Restrictions: Clearly present any rules, restrictions, or terms for each activity.
  • Easy Booking Feature: Implement a straightforward call-to-action for easy booking of activities.
  • Simple Content Management: Allow property managers to easily add, remove, or update activities without needing coding knowledge.
  • Toggle Between Offers: Include an option to toggle between complimentary and non-complimentary offers.
  • Use Provider Assets: Whenever possible, use activity provider photos and copy to showcase offerings.
  • Brand Consistency: Incorporate the lodging provider's logo to maintain brand consistency.

Design 1

In 2015, Xplorie introduced its first digital brochure to promote activities to guests, designed for mobile devices as smartphones were becoming increasingly popular.

  • Sticky Bottom Menu: The menu remains fixed at the bottom for easy access.
  • Book Activity Button: Always positioned first on the left for quick booking.
  • Customizable Buttons: Two additional buttons that can be customized by the client.

Process

Research and Discovery

  • Research Current Digital Solutions: Analyze existing digital solutions in the market that could inspire or inform your project. Identify features, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Research Microsites: Investigate microsites' use and effectiveness in driving targeted engagement. Look at examples of microsites that have been successful in similar industries.
  • Research Drag-and-Drop Web Solutions: Explore drag-and-drop website builders for ease of use, efficiency, and scalability, especially if the solution needs to be adaptable.
  • Research Current Design Trends: Stay updated on the latest design trends, ensuring the site aligns with modern aesthetics and functionality to appeal to the target audience.
  • Research User Interface Trends: Examine trends in UI design that enhance usability and ensure a seamless user experience across devices.

Synthesize Research Findings

  • Outline Key Takeaways from Research: Summarize the insights gained from research, identifying best practices and lessons learned to guide design and development.

Create Initial Design Concepts

  • Create Wireframes: Develop low-fidelity wireframes to map out the site structure and layout. Focus on the user journey and overall functionality.
  • Conduct Stakeholder Review for Feedback: Present wireframes to stakeholders for feedback and ensure the direction aligns with business goals and user needs.
  • Create Rough Visual Mockups: Design rough visual mockups to give stakeholders a better sense of the aesthetic and design direction.
  • Conduct Stakeholder Review for Feedback: Review the visual mockups with stakeholders to gather further feedback and ensure alignment.

Develop Functional Prototype

  • Create Functional Prototype for User Testing: Build a high-fidelity, interactive prototype that simulates user interactions for testing. Focus on user experience (UX) and key features.
  • Collect Results and Define Improvements: Conduct user testing with real or target users. Gather feedback and define improvements based on user behavior and preferences.
  • Stakeholder Sign-off on User Improvements: Present results to stakeholders and secure approval on any proposed changes based on user testing feedback.

Final Development and Launch Preparation

  • Create Launch Plan: Develop a detailed launch plan that includes timelines, responsibilities, and key milestones for the launch.
  • Build Assets: Create and gather all necessary assets, including:
    • Activity photos for the microsite
    • Smart blocks and templates for content
    • Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for operations
    • Call center forms and pages to support customer service
    • Activity masterlist and content for display on the site
  • Build Final Microsites for Current Clients: Finalize and build the microsites for your clients, ensuring they are tailored to their specific needs and brand guidelines.

Launch and Post-Launch

  • Launch the Microsites: Deploy the microsites and ensure that everything is functioning as planned.
  • Monitor Analytics and User Feedback for Continued Improvements: Track site analytics and user feedback to identify areas for improvement. Use this data to make adjustments and optimize performance over time.

Redesign 2.0

Redesign  2.0  called for a visual refresh as the Xplorie brand grew.

  • Activity product details become more structured and robust.
  • Video is introduced on the product level

Redesign 3.0

For Redesign 3.0, we are overhauling the site's architecture to reflect updates to our business model. Along with providing complimentary tickets, Xplorie will begin selling activities directly. Additionally, we will transition from a category-based organization to a focus on individual products.

Information Architecture Updates for Page:

  • Offer Toggle: Based on an executive request, the page will feature a toggle system to switch between the two offers, eliminating the use of tabs or segmented layouts.
  • Navigation Update: The bottom navigation menu will transition from buttons to icons for a cleaner and more intuitive design.
  • Desktop Optimization: To address the post-pandemic shift in user beh

Information Architecture for Activity Product Details:

To enhance the desktop experience, activity details have been streamlined using a segmented layout. This approach organizes information into clearly defined sections, making it easier for users to access specific details efficiently.
